No squash but possibly break dancing.
It baffles me that the IOC are considering making Break dancing, skate boarding, climbing and surfing Olympic sports but are excluding squash.

Looks like squash would even be behind darts, snooker and shove halfpenny. It’s a wonderful all the year round game that is played in the Commonwealth games and it more deserving of Olympic inclusion especially over subjectively judged activities like break dancing.

IMO we would be better off at the summer Olympics with tug-of-war.
But probably the Health and Safety snowflakes would have palpitations.

Squash isn't a bad sport, but Russ is spot on. No one has played it since the 80s and 90s. There used to be squash courts everywhere, but I'm struggling to think of one close to me these days.

Breakdancing is no worse than synchronised swimming, rhythmic gymnastic and ice skating.

In fact, watching it would be a lot more entertaining than that load of shit.

If it involves music it's not a sport.

Re: No squash but possibly break dancing.
It's nothing whatsoever to do with sponsorship. It is to do with the total number of National Governing Bodies a sport has which are recognised by an international federation.

Some of the most highly-participated sports on the planet like kabaddi, netball and many others far eclipse the number of people who take part in many Olympic sports but there aren't enough NGBs well-organised and affiliated to one central body to satisfy the requirements of Olympic inclusion.

This is also why they can be included in the Commonwealth Games as the set of popular sports is similar amongst those participating countries even if not popular outside of those countries.

All about the sponsors - Breakdancers are generally younger and less well educated than squash players and more susceptible to advertising.

It's been a long time since it was about the sport (itself).

Suspicious that all the new suggestions will more than likely be scored by judging, more chances for brown envelopes full of cash being passed around. Not like the IOC to encourage bribery.

Squash is a fucking quality sport and top level players up there with the fittest athletes out there. Even if you do not play the game, watching decent level players is great entertainment and fiercely competitive. Crazy it’s not included

Squash should be in the Olympics, However so should climbing. They way they have introduced climbing into the Olympics is a travesty.
They have taken 3 specialist events

Bouldering
Lead climbing
Speed climbing

And made the climber do all three events??
Its like saying in athletics you have to the 100m, a 400metre hurdles and a 10,000 metres to be a running champion a complete nonsense.

Like watching break dancing, but it clearly isn't a sport.

And anyone who thinks squash was only played by people in the 80's is clearly a bit clueless and hasn't tried getting a court unless booked weeks in advance!
